TownTalk Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 September 2026

TownTalk is a language-practice game: you talk with characters in an illustrated town in Mandarin, Japanese or Korean. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and how to delete it.

No account needed

You don't sign up. The app creates an anonymous ID so it can keep your progress. We don't ask for your name, email address or contacts.

Your voice

The app records only after you tap the microphone, until you send or delete the recording. When you send an answer:

Recordings are processed and not kept by TownTalk. A short transcript of each conversation is stored with your progress so the results screen can show what you said; it is deleted automatically after 30 days, or earlier when you delete your progress. The copies of your recordings you can replay in the app stay on your phone.

What we store

This is stored on Google Firebase (Google Cloud) in the United States.

Purchases

Town Pass is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple. Payment is handled by Apple; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active, linked to your anonymous ID.

Service providers

We share data only with the services that run the app: Google Firebase (storage, hosting, app backend), OpenAI (speech-to-text and understanding answers), Microsoft Azure Speech (pronunciation checks and the characters' voices), RevenueCat (subscription status) and Apple (purchases). We don't sell your data, show ads, or use it for tracking.

Deleting your data

In the app, open Settings and tap Delete progress to remove your progress for a language. Transcripts are deleted automatically after 30 days. To have everything linked to your anonymous ID deleted now, email us and we'll do it.

Children

TownTalk is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
